we read poems today
in a fort made of tattered quilts
from the wooded hollows
of Athens, Ohio
and I taught him how to steal a kiss
how to braid my hair
the word stealthy
you can be a spy
I told him
you are your mother's son
you have that je nes se quoi
too
your heart is broad and tricky
it's just how you were made
