My bad ass mom:

Rescues animals that nobody else wants and gives them the best home. Created a warm home that merits drop-by visits from her incredible extended family of smart/fun/interesting people, brings said people together over incredible food that she can cook without any guidance from recipes. Performs virtual tarot readings, because sometimes you need to know the future immediately. Rebuilt our family home when it burned down in a tragic fire, is a better diagnostic tool than webMD (and knows how to make me feel better from 3,000 miles away).

Can make anybody laugh and feel like the center of the world, taught me how to show love (hint: it's the little things, like using food color to turn cereal milk pink on Valentine's day). Has the best dirty jokes, gives better advice than any column or blog I've ever found (especially for when you're crying on a street corner in New York City in the middle of the night because you had a fight with your boyfriend and don't know how to say sorry) and has filled my life with beautiful notes and letters… She's an incredible writer.

And possibly most bad ass of all these things: my BAM raised three daughters who have incredibly happy, full lives and know that they are so deeply, completely loved that they can live their lives as successful women of strength who know their value, surround themselves with men and women who celebrate strong girls, and in turn will create and build up other strong women.

So badass.
