Cops & Kids from Mamalode on Vimeo.
Jeremiah and Katie Petersen have dedicated their lives to making their community a better place for their five-year old daughter Mesa. Jeremiah is a Sergeant in a Montana Sherriff’s Department and Katie is a detective with the Special Victims Unit specializing in sexual violence against children. They see the worst of the worst in their jobs. Because Jeremiah and Katie dedicate their lives to cleaning up the streets, they are finding that it’s hard to separate the job and raising kids.
Tim Blodgett is a third-year videography and journalism student at the University of Montana and an intern at Mamalode this summer. Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, he's lived in Boston, London and Missoula, Montana. Tim got the idea for this film from the #dayinthelifeofmamalode that Katie did on Mamalode's Instagram in April 2014. He set out to create a film about Katie and Jeremiah that told the story of their parenting while capturing both of the worlds they inhabit. Putting a human face on cops so people realize they are the same as everyone else helped him to show how having two cops as parents affected Mesa and how their job changed the way they raised her.
The #dayinthelifeofmamalode series is about authentic storytelling through words an imagery. Follow @mamalode or #dayinthelifeofmamalode on Instagram and read each contributor's full article on their day on http://mamalode.com.
