The Mamalode Starter Series is an exciting opportunity for us to introduce you to some of the amazing people we get to meet. Starting something takes enormous amounts of work, faith, help and community. Every week we'll share another story of starting. So, community of Mamalode, read up, get inspired and check out these wonder-folk.
Interview with Malcolm Bird, CEO of Viddiverse.
Tell us a little bit about your business and how you started it.
The Viddiverse is a safe video platform for kids ages 8-13 (tweens) that allow them to watch, upload create and share. We have over 130 hours of premium age appropriate content for them to watch. After a parent signs them up, kids can upload their own videos and record themselves on their webcams. Once uploaded, kids can “edit” their videos in our amazing studio—adding effects, borders, sound effects and speech bubbles. All text on the site is “white listed” so no swearing is allowed and the video uploads are monitored. Kids want to have a video social network experience BUT parents are rightly concerned about adult video networks and their content. The Viddiverse is a unique thing—parents live it and kids do too. When does that ever happen?
What do your kids think about your job?
My daughter is 7-months-old, so she doesn't quite get it yet but she seems to gurgle her approval!
Tell us about a total dad + biz fail?
I try my hardest to be home at an acceptable time to help with my daughter. Thankfully I have the best wife in the world and she makes my life a lot easier. I did once have an investment call whilst looking after my daughter Colette, and everything was going fine…until it wasn't!!! It was funny explaining a screaming baby and a bottle feed to a bunch of venture capitalists!
Share with us a total win (brag away!)
The aforementioned wife—you don't get a bigger win than that because without her we wouldn't have Colette. A win win!!!
What's your relationship with Mamalode?
Mamalode is a brilliant platform talking directly to moms. Without moms I wouldn't have a business! I love the magazine and web platform and I am here to grow with Mamalode!
