Brooke is a Badass mom. She lost her husband, unexpectedly, a year and a half ago and suddenly became a single mom to an almost two year old while she was 7mo pregnant with her second daughter. I didn't know her back then but I know her now. I watch her, daily, give everything she has, and all that she'll never get back, to her daughters. She lives fully, loves relentlessly, and gives selflessly amidst a cloud of unimaginable grief, heartache, and despair.

She looks at her kids each day and is reminded of the love that she lost. She sees him in their budding personalities and their soft smiles. She swallows tears and speaks kindly who those who pass judgement and make ignorant assumptions without knowing her story.

She comforts her crying daughter, pockets her own pain, and whispers, “It's okay to not want to stay here with mommy” when her three year old says she'd rather be in Heaven with daddy. “I understand how desperately you want to see your daddy. I know that you miss him. I miss him too.”

She answers hard questions even when she doesn't have words. When she still has questions herself. She walks confidently with her head held high even though her heart is half broken. She respects time. She values and appreciates each moment because she knows how quickly it can all be taken away.

She loves her girls enough for both parents, even though she feels like it will never be enough. She puts on a brave face, even when she feels like falling apart. She brings light into darkness, breathes hope to those who have none, inspires me daily, and is living proof of life after death.
